Tangi/funeral discussion

Unfortunately, our marae trip was cancelled because it is being used for a tangi.

For our Oral Language learning today we had to korero/whakarongo about what happens in different cultures when someone passes away.

Aniket told us about how in India they wash the body then lie them on sticks and cremate them.

Anab said in Muslim culture they also wash the body. Hodan said they get a tall stick and line them up. They pour hot water on it. Then they drop the person on cold water and cover them up.

Lots of people have felt sad at a person or animal dying.

We also shared about how funerals can be fun because you get to see lots of cousins and whanau.

Ryan said if you are in the army you get a flag.

Ruihana said they use moonstones from the moon to pass on a message to the person that has died.

Nature Art

This year at H.E.S we will have an art exhibition. We made some natural outdoor art with our teina from Ruma Rima. We collected sticks, acorns, leaves, cabbage tree leaves, bark and other things that had blown down in the storm. Next we made people out of them, for a practice of the art exhibition. This was fun because we worked together. Check out the photos.
