Day 5 Friday 27 August - Home Learning
I am so impressed with the home learning you are doing. As today is Friday, check if you have finished the 2 tasks on Education Perfect. I have seen 20 of you have been on there but not all of you have finished the Te Reo task. I did set more tasks on Mathletics, so get those finished off too. I will be putting a new assignment on Code Avengers next week which is the next level up, so see if you can get this weeks assignment finished today.
Daily Challenge: Create a Pillow Fort/Hut
Check out Jared's Hut Now you see him...... |
.... and now you don't! |
Levi's family having afternoon tea in his fort. |
Emily in her hut |
The hut made by Jarvis and his brothers. |
Lee and Paddington picnicking in her pillow hut. |
Thomas and Quinn in their hut. |
Annabelle in her pillow hut. |
DO: Ask your parents or caregiver if you can make a hut inside using cushions from the couch or sofa. You can use sheets, pegs, and even pieces of furniture to help build your hut.
It would be great if you could build this collaboratively with your siblings. You are good at working collaboratively in the class so see how you do at home.
Once your hut is built spend some time playing in it, possibly reading your book or having a picnic (if it's okay with your grownups).
When it is finished take a photo and email it to me at cmaunsell@hameast.school.nz

A Horned Dinosaur that eats meat created by Jared. He says its head is red because it is covered in blood! |
WATCH: ArtJohn make a simple dinosaur sculpture from a cereal box!
DO: Find a cardboard box, a ruler (or something straight you can use as a ruler), a pencil and a pair of scissors. Follow the steps on the video to make your own dinosaur sculpture. It needs to be able to stand by itself (using some of the triangles).
When it is finished take a photo and email it to me at cmaunsell@hameast.school.nz.
YOUR NEXT MISSION: When you are finished making your dinosaur, is there another animal you could create using only one shape? What about a teddy bear using only circles?
First thing this morning, I would like to a big shout out to everyone who has been having a go at our Daily Unplugged Challenges. It's great to see what you have come up with. I would also like to share with you photos sent to me from Toby's household. Toby and Finn have been very busy creating with their lego. Here is what they have made:
I would also like to share what our lovely Learning Assistant Kathie has been up to. Kathie has made a movie which is called Aussie Adventures 1. As the title suggests, there may be more to come.
Here's Kathie's Movie;

Day 3 Wednesday 25 August - Home Learning
Yesterday afternoon I found this tiny feather on my driveway. It reminded me of a learning task Room 10 did last year when we were in lockdown that you might like to have a go at. The weather forecast is fine for today, so it would be a great day to get outside and find some natural treasures to create your own insect.
CREATE AN INSECT OUT OF STUFF IN YOUR BACKYARD |
WATCH: How to turn stuff from your backyard into stunning insect sculptures. TALK TO SOMEONE IN YOUR BUBBLE: What are the steps Raku takes to create his sculptures? Do you think they look realistic? Are they easy to make? How do you think he chooses which animals to make? What do you have in your backyard? What could you use to make a sculpture? What insect would you choose? DO: Create an insect out of stuff in your backyard. Go into your backyard/garden or anywhere you can access outside (with your parents or an adult in your bubble). Forage - which means collect - a range of natural items like leaves, twigs, flowers etc. Bring them back home and lay them out. Think of an insect you would like to try to create and use your items to rearrange into the shape of it. What can you create? |
Share your sculpture with me by either putting a photo on a google drawing, give it a title and share it with me or take a photo on a phone and email it to me: cmaunsell@hameast.school.nz |

Day 2 Tuesday 24 August - Home Learning
Here is Lee's first boat. She then made some improvements. Both versions of her boat floated. Once Lee was finished Paddington tried to eat it!
Here's Emily's boat made from an egg carton and tinfoil.
Just reminding all students from Room 10 that we have a range of digital learning opportunities accessible from this blog page. These are sites that we use during the week when we are in school. I have emailed your parents/caregivers with all the details you need to access these in case you have forgotten your email address, usernames or passwords. Please email me if they haven't received this: cmaunsell@hameast.school.nz

The NRG Science Box from the House of Science
We were lucky to have a Science Box in Room 10 last week. It was based on the story of how Maui Slowed down the Sun. We undertook three different experiments.
The first experiment was to see what colour paper attracted the most heat from the sun. Was it white, red, black or tinfoil? We had to keep an eye on the weather and as soon as the sun came out, we were out on the court with our thermometers, paper and stopwatches.
We had to design our own experiment to see what type of fabric was the best insulator. We finally worked out we could put hot water into a cannister that we wrapped with different types of fabric. We measured the temperature at the start and the temperature at the end of a set time to see which fabric held in the heat the best.
