Day 3 Wednesday 25 August - Home Learning

Yesterday afternoon I found this tiny feather on my driveway. It reminded me of a learning task Room 10 did last year when we were in lockdown that you might like to have a go at. The weather forecast is fine for today, so it would be a great day to get outside and find some natural treasures to create your own insect.

My Creation by Annabelle!

Emily and her Dad made one of these each.  One is a dragonfly and the other a tree insect.  Can you pick which one is which?

This insect was made by Stella.

CREATE AN INSECT OUT OF STUFF IN YOUR BACKYARD

WATCH:  How to turn stuff from your backyard into stunning insect sculptures.

TALK TO SOMEONE IN YOUR BUBBLE: What are the steps Raku takes to create his sculptures?  Do you think they look realistic?  Are they easy to make? How do you think he chooses which animals to make? What do you have in your backyard? What could you use to make a sculpture? What insect would you choose?

DO:  Create an insect out of stuff in your backyard.

Go into your backyard/garden or anywhere you can access outside (with your parents or an adult in your bubble). Forage - which means collect - a range of natural items like leaves, twigs, flowers etc.  Bring them back home and lay them out. Think of an insect you would like to try to create and use your items to rearrange into the shape of it.  What can you create?

Share your sculpture with me by either putting a photo on a google drawing, give it a title and share it with me or take a photo on a phone and email it to me: cmaunsell@hameast.school.nz
